Before his retirement, Mitchell was a project manager for computer systems implementation but spent most of his free time outdoors with Nancy on mountain trails searching for native plants and wildflowers to photograph. Field trips have taken them from Roan Mountain in East Tennessee to Reelfoot Lake near the western border; from Big South Fork near the Kentucky state line to the slopes of Lookout Mountain and many points in between. Mitchell has photographed over 500 species of native plants, but still finds joy with the coming of wildflower season each spring, especially when discovering new species for his life list. During his presentation, he will share some of his favorites that he has photographed at various sites in the area.

Mitchell Kent and his wife, Nancy, live in Chattanooga where they have been active in several botanical societies. These include the Tennessee Native Plant Society, Georgia Botanical Society and Wild Ones Tennessee Valley Chapter. Mitchell has served in various roles in Tennessee Native Plant Society including Education Outreach Coordinator, member of the Board of Directors and was recently elected as President beginning in January 2025.

Feel free to join some of us at Doc Holidays - 742 Ashland Terrace after the meeting!
